June 3rd, 2018 (Washington, D.C.) - Now in its fourth year, Politics & Art is hosting its annual event presented by Washington Performing Arts' Mars Urban Arts Initiative and Councilmember David Grosso, and held at The Wilson Building in Washington, D.C. This year’s theme will be District Vox—a celebration of voice—from song to spoken word. District Vox will be held on June 14 from 5:30-8pm. April 3rd, 2015 (Washington, D.C.) - After a triumphant entry into the semi-finals of the 2015 AARP/American Idol Superstar contest, Darrell unfortunately failed to make the cut from the final 12 to the final 8 performance phase of the contest. The judges decided to go a different direction, so it was not to be. There is solace though in being selected among 12 out of 873 entries, and Darrell will take this success forward into his future musical pursuits.
March 16th, 2015 (Washington, D.C.) - Darrell * Johnson has been selected as one of the 12 semi-finalists for the 2015 AARP/American Idol Superstar contest. Out of 873 entries, he has been selected to move forward into the top 12 semi-final round of AARP’s Superstar 2015 competition. This is a huge honor, but your help is needed. As with the regular American Idol, the public gets to vote – this competition is no exception. The public will vote on their favorite contestant between March 15th & April 3rd. An individual can vote one time for one person per day. The public votes will make up 25% of the total score to help determine who moves forward to the top 8 competition in Washington, D.C. on April 14th. December 6th, 2014 (Washington, D.C.) - Despite the rain and overall dismal weather, a large and enthusiastic crowd came to witness an exceptional performance by Darrell Johnson. Darrell is beginning to establish a reputation in the Adams Morgan music scene as a consummate musician; a must see. All who have come to hear this entertainer perform have left feeling that they've been treated to something truly special. As if the performance itself wasn't enough, Darrell used this opportunity to host a surprise birthday party for his wife, Barbara. Friends and family shared in the celebration, and good food and drink were had by all. If you missed this performance you truly missed something great. But not to worry. Darrell will be back at Club H&H on January 3rd, 2015. So Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, and we so look forward to seeing everyone then.
October 5th, 2014 (Washington, D.C.) - The first of many regularly scheduled monthly performances by Darrell Johnson at Club Heaven and Hell / Green Island Room was deemed a rousing success. The intimate crowd was treated to an opening performance by Orion Wildflower, a self-described electronic jazz fusion rap/hip hop alternative duo based in Washington D.C. Their performance was followed by the smooth piano/vocal stylings of Darrell Johnson. In his set, Darrell performed a number of jazz standards such as "When I Fall In Love" as well as iconic pop favorites like "Landslide and "I Can't Make You Love Me", putting his own unique contemporary spin on these classics. The crowd, though small, was very enthusiastic and appreciative. Darrell will be performing again at Club H&H on Saturday, November 1st, between 8pm and 11pm. Hope to see you there.
August 9, 2014 (Washington, D.C.) - Darrell Johnson will be performing at Club Heaven and Hell / Green Island room on Saturday, October 4th at 8pm. This solo piano/vocal performance will be the first of a series of monthly performances at the Adams Morgan venue. In addition to his performance, Darrell will also serve as the host for other up and coming talent, both local and outside the region. It is sure to be a festive and entertaining evening so please mark your calendar.

April 19, 2014 (Washington, D.C.) - Humble but triumphant beginnings were experienced during an intimate piano and vocal recital given by Darrell Johnson at his home in Washington, D.C. The small but enthusiastic gathering witnessed an impressive performance as Darrell played piano and sang a one hour set of music featuring many popular and contemporary jazz, pop, Latin, and soft rock selections. He also performed an original composition entitled And So Said Maya Angelou from his 2006 CD, Be Still. The performance was videotaped and will soon be available on Youtube and this website.
